Style: Traditional    Built: 1942

The personality and charm of this home was hidden beneath dark paneling, 60s shag carpeting, and heavy drapes that made the entire home dark and uninviting. However, the details that revealed themselves to us included original wide planked parquet flooring, concealed brick hearth, practical, flowing floor plan and an original greenhouse that hadn't seen a plant for decades.

This home's restoration plan was about exposing the past and editing all unoriginal "updates". This included recreating the elegant mantel that once surrounded its fireplace, replacing traditional trim work and wainscoting, and finally making the home light and airy by highlighting and exposing the generous amount of windows that brought the outside in.

Kitchen details such as a subway tile backsplash, school house light fixtures and butter yellow cupboards were carefully selected and installed to recreate this classic depression era kitchen (made modern by its new stainless appliances). All unoriginal character and fixtures were removed in the bath and replaced with a classic pedestal sink, period style fixtures and vintage touches. The original greenhouse was restored by replacing the roof and all broken glass panes, painting it a classic shade of white, and cleaning its aged brick floors. To take full advantage of this "reclaimed" greenhouse, the current owners utilize this additional space as an outdoor dining room thriving with growing herbs, orchids and other plants. This home's revival can best be described as a thoughtful tribute to the past that emphasizes its true classic character.
