Style: Bungalow    Built: 1926

We were lucky to acquire this Berkeley Craftsman with its period details intact from the original family. To revive this home's character we thoughtfully restored all of the original built-ins and detailed trim work. A set of glass French doors lay discarded below the house for decades that we were able to restore and return to their original home dividing the formal living room and dining room. The plaster in the home was cracked and falling off the walls. All was restored using a time consuming (but ultimately beautiful) hand-troweled and hand-sanded smooth finish.

The kitchen was transformed from a dark and dreary eyesore to a modern space including granite countertops, stainless appliances and cabinetry that echoed the home's original craftsman style. Under layers of linoleum we discovered and restored the original straight-grain fir flooring. The kitchen's formerly concealed brick chimney flue was exposed and cleaned to create a beautiful focal point that provided a historical link to its past.

Other updates to this home included the addition of a half bath and laundry room, new heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as new doors and windows. All in all this home maintained every bit of its craftsman character while providing the conveniences of 21st century living.
